I was watching news on Obama at http://abcnews.go.com/Video/playerIndex?id=6711411. It shows he speaks Indonesian. It was pretty interesting since he spoke fluently. The way he speaks reminds me of my son. His accent is the same with the way my son talks to me or his grandma.
He surprised my mom when he said 'terima kasih' (at that time he was 6 yrs old). My mom loves the way he says it, as he was not speaking Indonesian very well that time. She was wondering why my son said thanks all the time to her. My mom said she never heard kids said thanked all the time.
I was brought up in Indonesia. I did not remember myself or my friends said a lot of thanks. That's the lesson I learned. However, I am so proud to see my son, Obama, and other people who appreciate my language. It means a lot if someone recognizes your language. Even only 2 words.
