Starbucks, part one.

Winter 1999, hunting job on the bad weather! Well .. I know how to operate cash register, I know how to make sandwiches, I know how to make Cappucinno etc. It’s time to get to higher level of experiences! Resume dah ada isinya canadian experience @ least, so … here we go … I am ready to rumble!
Siang pulang kerja, langsung aja aku stop by ke Starbucks disebelah Four season hotel @ Yorkville area (ini district hawt nya Toronto), tempat hang outnya seleb2 Toronto dan US kalau ada Toronto Festival Film.

Siang itu jg aku lagi lucky, ketemu sama managernya Starbucks sendiri. He’s a very nice and friendly young man, ganteng lagi, bo! Jeeha … he ..h e.. Setelah ngobrol2 quite a bit sama dia, dia keliatan tertarik untuk hire aku. Pokoknya aku bilang ma dia, ditanggung de gak bakalan nyesel ngehire aku, I am really worth it to work with! Try to sell myself here, he ..eh .. here we go …

Finall I got the job smoothly on the spot! Yes!!!! I got training with 3 friends of mine that time. I am so happy join with this big company. We are talking about the hottest cafe shop in North America that time. Belum ada duanya waktu itu. Bener2 judulnya professional. 2 thumbs up for it. Got a good training as a barista (barista = bartender). It’s totally different experience. Aku harus belajar dari zero.
Whatever yg sudah aku pelajarin di cafe2 sebelumnya, it’s done. Case closed! It’s totally different method. Training selama seminggu di training centre, downtown lumayan gila juga. Banyak sekali yg harus aku hapalkan dalam urut2an nyebutin minuman2 ini . Starbucks punya satu keunggulan yg beda sama cafĂ© shop lainnya, Customer is the first! Customer is the King. Customer is everything no matter what. So don’t even bother to mess up with them. Gitu jg dalam hal create a cup of coffee there, they never compromise. Jadi Starbucks berusaha untuk memenuhi semua permintaan customers. Apapun permintaan customer, we make it. That’s the good thing about Starbucks, the bad thing we create customers yg cerewet2 in this earth! No doubt about it. Even at the end, we make a big bucks! That’s why it’s called “Star Bucks”, lihat aja logonya, gambarnya kan superstar = gold digger, ha .h a.h a.

Good thing lainnya yg aku suka, Starbucks lebih memperhatikan pegawainya. Prinsipnya gini: Untuk bikin customer happy, yg melayani customer harus happy jg. Gimana customer mo happy kalau pelayannya aja gak happy melayani customernya. Bener kan? That makes sense. Untuk itu Starbucks berusaha untuk membuat kita yg melayani customer happy dulu. How? .. a lot! Kita dapat a good benefit: dental and all insurance, kita dapat stock bean option, dapat minum gratis apapun selagi kerja, setiap akhir minggu kita dapat bean 1 lb atau 1 box of tea, kita dapat potongan belanja 25% off, dapat promosi kalau ada kesempatan naik ke level yg lebih atas. So many thing that makes you love working over there.
